Organisation: Laboratory

Department: Analytical Chemistry

Country: Canada

Product: StarFish

Case Study No: CS1089

The situation

Previously using a 6 position heating mantle for sample preparation using 500 ml round bottom flasks and Soxhlet extraction glassware. The solvents will generally be the same in every position, therefore the set temperature will be the same. The existing equipment fills the fumehood.

The objective

Due to an increase in workload, the number of samples needed to be run simultaneously was predicted to at least double in the coming months, however no additional fumehood space was available. Recognising that fumehood could accommodate 5 of the compact Starfish, this would allow each to have 3 x 500 ml flasks using their existing glassware, to facilitate 15 positions in a space where they could previously only perform 6 extractions.

The results

Radleys supplied 5 sets of StarFish with 3 x 500ml monoblocks and water manifolds, to reduce the quantity of water tubes. The extra workload could be safely accommodated in the existing work space.

Before StarFish

After StarFish

Radleys supplied 5 sets of StarFish with 3 x 500ml monoblocks and water manifolds, to reduce the quantity of water tubes. Therefore the extra workload could be safely accommodated in the existing work space.
